Acer Aspire One D255 Ram Upgrade

OK, so I was looking online myself for a HOW-TO GUIDE on upgrading the RAM on the Acer Aspire One series NETBOOKS, but to no avail I couldn’t find anything regarding this particular model type. AOD255. So … when I purchased my new netbook I decided to make a video on how-to upgrade the RAM. This is my 1st ‘upgrade tutorial’ type video so I’m kinda nervous and stuttering and I’m a bit shaky with the camera and the picture sometimes goes fuzzy. If you can get past that I’m sure this video will be quite informative and helpful to you in upgrading the ram. Its a very simple process and it can be done in about 10-15 minutes, with patience =). The RAM I used in this video to upgrade my NETBOOK is as follows: Mushkin Essentials 2GB DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 CL4 SODIMM I recommend either using this same type of memory or the KINGSTON brand of SODIMM memory modules as that is the make of the 1GB stick that comes with the system. Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM (KVR667D2S5/2G) ================================= Once you upgrade the ram and uninstall all the pre-bundled ‘BLOATWARE’ you will notice that the AOD255 runs pretty quick. Although I am disappointed with the lack of features in ‘WINDOWS 7 STARTER’ this can also be fixed with a quick WINDOWS ANYTIME UPGRADE. I manged to find a good deal and I purchased a WINDOWS ANYTIME UPGRADE KEY to HOME PREMIUM on eBay for $30 USD. I notice it runs much better and I am satisfied to have the full functions of Windows 7 …

Thank you for this video….I’m not a computer expert but like to do things myself if i can…your video allowed me to do the upgrade myself…and there is nothing else online about how to do this task…thanks again!
@abobo1
the netbook is: “Aspire One D255 25,6 cm (10,1 Zoll) Netbook (Intel Atom N450, 1,6GHz, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Intel GMA3150, Win 7 Starter + Andorid) red.
Thanks again for your help.
Blessings from germany
@abobo1
Hi there. thank you so much fot the video. I have almost the same netbook as yours, just my battery is a 6-cell.
About the 1 GB RAM you’ve said that you are not sure if it is a 800 or 600. Well, yours must be the same as mine – 800. I’m surprised that yours works with the 600 you put in…lol
Memory: 1013 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)
DIMM1: Kingston ACR128X64D2S800C6: 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (6-6-6-18 @ 400 MHz) (5-5-5-15 @ 333 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)
whats the most ram u can put into this notebook
Fuzzy video aside, you did a great job! Many thanks! I tried upgrading mine with a Corsair 2GB DDR3 1066MHz SO-DIMM module but it didn’t work, so it’s back to the shop. My AOD255 has an N550 chip, so I probable need the other RAM quoted elsewhere…
@vstarmatt09 Did you do that in a D255 N55DQcc with Intell N550? I’m very surprised. You used DDR2 memory!!!
@abobo1 I don’t remenber what the manufacturer is, but memory was DDR3-1333.
@abobo1
If i do accidently put a ram that isnt accepted will it damage my netbook, i am getting the D255 with N550. If so can i just put the old 1GB ram stick straight back in?
@mjdee1 nope, in and out job nothing changes (except the RAM)
… just follow the steps afterward like I did before putting the keyboard back, boot to BIOS and see if its accepted in the system, then let it boot to windows and make sure you dont get any BSOD (blue screens) then you are good to go! The N550 DDR3 models are EXTREMLY PICKY with RAM as stated ABOVE!! Be careful !!!
your welcome
… even though it was my 1st video and It seems very poor
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this! I could not have done it without you!
Hi, so wen i upgrade the ram do i need to back anything up or is it a in out job and everthing will still be there working fine as long as the ram is accepted?
@vernerdm N550, N455 models do not work with 16-chip memory!
Buy Kingston 2GB single rank module type: KAC-MEMHS / 2G. I hav it and working perfectly! This memory is designed for models D255 with CPU N455, N550 or Kingston: KVR1333D3S8S9 / 2 And for models D255 with CPU N450 is Kingston type: KAC-MEMF/2G

@vernerdm thanks for inputting this tip. It seems like our dual-core friend (N550) of the D255 series with DDR3 ram is really really picky. I am not sure why it is not liking certain modules. It should take KINGSTON of all ram modules? What manufacturer and speed was the original 1GB DDR3 stick in there? maybe we can help? Post all the details concerning. Only 2 brands I can think off the top of my head are CORSAIR and PATRIOT. (American ram manufacturers) but, probably all DI-FUSED in ASIA.
@vernerdm I forgot to say that my netbook is an “D255 N55DQcc” with Intel N550.
I tried next modules:
- Kingston ValueRAM SO-DIMM 2 GB DDR3-1333 (KVR1333D3S9/2G)
- Kingston ValueRAM SO-DIMM 2 GB DDR3-1066 (KVR1066D3S7/2G)
In both cases the netbook didn’t boot. I’m looking for new ones.
For the life of me i can not pop in the esc / f1 tab or the enter tab. I can get the credit card to slide across but there seems far to much pressure as you slide it along to the f1 tab
Please help
Thanks for posting this Acer Aspire One Video, Guys how good are these Netbooks – Acer Aspire One D550 – With 1GB of DDR3 memory.
Thank you so much. Anyone looking for information on upgrading Memory (RAM) on the Acer Aspire One AOD255 netbook should watch this. I looked all over for information, and didn’t find anything. I had heard that upgrading the ram was very difficult, however it seems fairly straight forward. Although the Acer AOD255 versions vary based on processor or memory type (I have the Intel N550 version with DDR3 memory) the design appears similar, and I imagine the steps will be identical for me. Thanks!
@vstarmatt09 silly me the date sould be Jan. 8, 2011
Jan. 8, 2010. Just wanted to say thank you very much for this video. I just completed the upgrade and it works perfectly!
I did not realize when I bought this machine that the memory was supposedly not upgradable or at least by the user.
I followed your instructions and this went so smooth. as was recommended start in the right hand corner of the keyboard at the delete key. I used the Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM (KVR667D2S5/2G)
Thanks again
thanks man this helped alot
@reddingrevolver as far as I know bud these netbooks use the same 2.5″ 5400 rpm laptop hard drives that go in standard laptops. As far as I know it should work. I have an older 2008 Toshiba Satellite Laptop 15.4″ that has 2 HDD bays, one uses a standard 320GB 5400rpm HDD (upgraded myself) and the boot drive I replaced with a 60GB OCZ Vertex SSD, which runs fantastic. I’m sure it would fit in the netbook, it should work as well, but don’t quote me on that. If you have one put it in to test. G/L
@thomasnguyen714 there are also D255 models that use the N550 processor (dual core atom cpu) and take DDR3 ram instead of the DDR2 that we have in our N450 cpu (single core atom cpu) netbooks. There are like 3-4 revisions of this damn netbook with the same name. Some with smaller HDDs, different OS and etc. It’s annoying how they all have the same name
Excellent instructions, followed it as shown and had my D255 upgraded to 2 GB. I have the N450 cpu and used the Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM (KVR667D2S5/2G). Took me 10 minutes in all. Many thanks.
